Third Sunday of Easter

One of the major themes of Vatican II, our last major council, was that we are a “pilgrim people”. That theme found expression in many of the conciliar documents. Instead of calling ourselves “the best Church”, as we overemphasized for many years, the leaders of our Church at that time emphasized that we are a Pilgrim People. This Sunday’s gospel is a great biblical compliment to that title. The two disciples of Jesus are on a journey from Jerusalem during which Jesus reveals himself in “the breaking of bread”, the Lucan School’s title for the Eucharist, the Mass. The same is true for us...Jesus is revealed most of all in the Mass as we journey from Sunday to Sunday. May the Lord Jesus be revealed to us Sunday by Sunday as we make this liturgical journey through the Easter season.

Grace and Peace, Father Reggie
